K’awat’si Fisheries Company is seeking a Shellfish worker to assist with general farm operations including, but not limited to, the planting, maintenance, and harvest of the company’s scallops and oyster beds.

The shellfish worker will perform general grounds maintenance and upkeep, and assist with various projects as needed.

The Shellfish Camp is a remote location, accessible via boat. Work rotations are based on weather and water conditions. This is not a fly-in/fly-out position and is best suited for an individual who is located in Northern Vancouver Island.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understand and maintain company assets in good operational condition.
  • Work to continuously improve operations with respect to productivity, quality, safety, inventory levels and operating expenses while utilizing effecting aquaculture methods.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Must be a self starter and possess the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Understand, adhere and enforce all government regulations, farm practices and standards of practices.
  • Operate, maintain and clean pumps, filters, tanks and other aquaculture equipment, and clean and maintain aquaculture nets/enclosures
  • Observe safe equipment operation of ropes, floats, nets, etc.
  • Operate both motorized/non-motorized watercraft for aquaculture operations.
  • Assist with collecting and recording growth and production data.
  • Assist with all husbandry tasks. Perform duties related to cleaning, sorting, grading and tumbling of shellfish.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Level 1 First Aid and Transport Endorsement
  • 1 year of related work experience preferred

Assets

  • Driver’s license
  • Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP), Marine Emergency Duties (MED A3), Radio Operator (ROCM)
